Solid ink is a proven color printing technology offered exclusively by Xerox. Introduced in 1991, the solid ink printer has won numerous awards from PC Magazine, MacUser, and MacWorld. A solid ink printer uses non-toxic solid ink instead of toner or inkjet cartridges. It offers remarkable drop management quality (more than 1,200 nozzles jetting at a total of 30 million drops per second) on a broad range of substrates, making it ideal for out-of-cleanroom printing-based integrated microfabrication, referred to as Printing MEMS. With the major advances in soft lithography, a simple and fast micromachining process (a complete design-to-fabrication cycle within hours for 10-micron registration capability and 30-micron feature size) is in high demand for prototyping of devices.
